About the Federation
The Harris Federation is a registered charity, now celebrating 20 years of running schools and Academies.
The Harris Federation aims to transform the life chances of young people by bringing about rapid improvement in examination results, personal development and aspiration. In terms of improvements in examination results combined with numbers of outstanding Academies, Harris Federation has a performance record which is unmatched by any Academy group in the country.
Of the seven Harris Academies so far to have been inspected by Ofsted, five have been judged to be ‘Outstanding’ with a sixth making Outstanding Progress. All Harris Academies are achieving sustained improvement at GCSE and A Level.
From this September the Harris Federation will have twelve Secondary Academies and one Primary Academy. Harris Academy Bromley will work closely with the entire group, including of course Harris Academy Beckenham.
We will be one of four single sex Harris Academies, including Harris Academy Bermondsey which has been rated as ‘Outstanding by Ofsted’.
We will also have a very close relationship with Harris Academy South Norwood, a school which many parents in Bromley already know and apply for places at. It has been judged by Ofsted to be an 'outstanding' school and is one of the country’s fastest improving schools, having trebled its GCSE results within three years of opening. Like Harris Academy Beckenham, it went from being an all boys’ school to a co-educational Academy.
Ms Carolyn English, who has been Principal of Harris Academy South Norwood since it opened, will become Executive Principal of Harris Academy Bromley. Having replaced an underachieving school, Harris Academy South Norwood was given ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted status within two years and one term of opening. Its results have increased each year and are now well above the national average.
Also nearby in Croydon is the first school to have joined the Harris Federation – Harris City Technology College, now called Harris City Academy Crystal Palace, which opened in September 1990. At the school it replaced, less than 10% of students left each year with five GCSE passes, but it is now one of the highest achieving state schools in the country and very popular with Bromley parents. It was the first school ever to achieve a perfect Ofsted score, with an ‘outstanding’ judgement in every category schools are inspected in.
The Chief Executive of the Harris Federation is Dr Dan Moynihan who has almost 25 years' experience in education.
