To the Tate!
Students from Year 10 to 13 travelled from Kent House train station on an expedition to Blackfriars, the last stop for those venturing to one of London's greatest art galleries. Followed by a quick walk through a London cultural hotspot, such is the South Bank and onwards to Tate Modern - which in a short time will also be getting a brand new look!
Students visited the permanent exhibitions with a range of foci, from: Natural Forms for Year 10 to Identity for Year 11 and What Lies Beneath for Year 12. After looking around four main exhibitions they chose artwork that related to their theme and proceeded to analyse it using both the mediums of writing and drawing, with the aid of the gallery information to inform their ideas.
This analysis is to form the research and development of their own ideas, within their individual sketchbooks - criteria for their GCSE and A Level coursework, before they develop and create their own masterpieces for the end of year exhibition.
As always we would like to thank the students who partook in this trip. They were a credit to HGABR.
Mrs Thomas noted that they were: "engaging in discussion about the artwork when they weren’t working independently. They were consistently generous, respectful and polite to the other gallery visitors".
