At Harris Girls' Academy Bromley the Harris Experience program has been an important aspect of our commitment to stretch and challenge our Most Able students. In Year 9 our students take part in a variety of activities to broaden their cultural experiences. This year our students are visiting the National Theatre to see the new production Wonder Land. Further to this, our Year 9 students will be taking part in an excellent program with Christie's Auction House, culminating in creating and auctioning their own art piece.
In Year 10 our students will be exposed to a myriad of cultural experiences, such as visiting the Royal Opera House and the theatre. This year, students have been academically stretched by taking part in a program with English Heritage surrounding the classification and designation of historical buildings. Further, this year will end on a visit to a Russell Group university and the opportunity for some students to take part in an excellent summer school hosted by King's College London.
The Harris Experience program continues in Year 11 by aiming to support students in gaining the very best GCSE grades. This year our Year 11 students have taken part in public speaking workshops to build their confidence as well as careers support to enable them to make informed choices about their futures.
As students move from GCSE to A level they graduate onto the Harris Experienced Advanced which provides numerous subject specific opportunities as well as bespoke university guidance.
Here, Anastasia Bennington, in Year 10 at Harris Girls' Academy Bromley, gives her account of what it is like to be part of Harris Experience.
“The Harris Experience is a great opportunity to develop your cultural understanding as well as providing experiences that I would never be able to have otherwise. Being part of this programme has enabled me to start to develop the skills, understanding and experiences necessary to get into a Russell Group University, where I wish to study medicine”.
