3rd January 2017

Last term was very successful with the opening of the new building, record Academy attendance and fantastic behaviour across the school. I am very grateful to parents and carers who work so closely with us to provide the best possible support for your daughters.

We were also very pleased to welcome a record number of students to our Banding Test in December and are delighted that more and more parents are choosing to send their daughters to our Academy. We will work very hard to make sure that they enjoy their time at the Academy, have wonderful experiences, meet some fantastic friends and do well in their examinations.

We officially open the new building on 24th January and this will mark a very significant point in our journey; the girls now have the first  rate facilities that they deserve and we are very excited about the future and what can be achieved now that we have such incredible facilities.

December 2016

We are working hard to develop a culture that with the right frame of mind, our girls can do anything.

As stated previously, the phrase from Michelangelo sums this up when he wrote that ‘the greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short, but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark’ and this quote is displayed in every classroom and underpins our belief that we can achieve remarkable things if we strive to.

Indeed, this is the reason that we have developed a strapline for the Academy, which is intended to speak directly to the students and to encapsulate untapped potential alongside achievement;

‘The outstanding you.’

And so here we are just over a week into the new term; the brand new building that we have been showing pictures of for the last two year is up and we are finally in it! It is incredible - we are really exciting about showing it off at Open Evening on 26th September.

The start of term went well despite the inevitable teething issues and the girls have been incredible. It's such a fantastic feeling walking around the Academy and seeing the girls engaging in fantastic lessons on facilities that they truly deserve!

Key message from last weeks' assemblies:

'The danger for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short, but in setting our aim too low and achieving it!' (Michelangelo).

Best wishes.

Such a fantastic day on Saturday! Lots of parents, teachers and students came to the HGABR Summer Fair and such a joy to listen to the choir, see the Art, and DT work, and also the robotics team. I am really proud of what is happening in the Academy and Saturday was a great way to celebrate! See some of the photos from the day here.

We have 3 weeks to go until the end of term, a lot to celebrate and much to look forward to!

Will we win Sports Day again?

I am so very pleased that Harris Girls' Academy Bromley has won the Tomorrow's Engineers regional final! Y7 and Y8 girls beating lots of other schools across London is a fantastic demonstration of what can be done when hard work and talent work together!

Nationally they say girls are not interested in or confident in Technology? Not at Harris Bromley! Thanks to Miss Devine and Mr Howes! Bring on the national final in Coventry - we can be the best in the country!

The GCSE examinations are here!

We spoke with all of the Y11 students this morning and they have been working hard and look ready for action; iGCSE English exam is this afternoon and the English department are busy preparing the girls!

Other things that have been happening; It was fantastic to speak with the hardest working and most dedicated Y7 and 8 students on Friday who we are sending sailing as a reward for their continued efforts.

Jessica and Lizonie both in year 9, have been accepted onto the prestigious Imperial College Engineering Summer School which is a huge accolade for them and we are all very proud!

Our Academy allotment is being developed as we speak and we are looking forward to growing our own vegetables and seeing what they taste like.

Also, I would like to say that our latest Insight magazine is on its way and we are looking forward to the heatwave!

Another fantastic start to the term and particularly pleasing to see how many Y6 parents have chosen us to educate their daughters next year. We have been working very hard and I do believe we have been achieving great things and we are really looking forward to meeting you and your daughters on the transition days in July.

Years 11, 12 and 13 are in the final stages of their preparations for exams and we wish them every success although I would prefer even more to be attending before and after school support! Please encourage your daughters to take advantage of the intervention on offer as it will really make a difference!

Finally please follow us on Twitter and find out everything that we are doing!

24th March 2016

We have just received the validated data for GCSE results for the summer and progress is amongst the top 3% of schools in the country. This means that progress was better than we initially thought it was going to be and is a fantastic accolade for the students, teachers and parents. I am very proud of everything that the Academy achieved last year and assure you that we are working very hard to improve upon that this year!

I wish you a very restful Easter and hope that you are able to enjoy some quality time with your families.

Best wishes,

David Astin

Currently looking forward to seeing how the Y11 students have done in their Mock examinations; results coming in from departments on Friday and lots of analysis scheduled for next week; let’s see if we can improve upon last year! Interventions have been planned and we are currently working out how to ensure that as many students as possible come in!

The Year 11 Kingswood trip has been organised and I am sure the girls are really looking forward to spending the weekend doing Maths; teachers certainly are!

We also have lots of things happening for other year groups; our football teams doing very well at fixtures, Robotics clubs every      Thursday, Stewart Fleming Primary students coming in for Science lessons, Academic lectures and so much more - if you have not already signed up to follow our Twitter account you are missing out!
