World Book Day Celebration at HGABR Thursday, 5th March 2015
World Book Day is the biggest celebration of its kind, designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading. Harris Girls' Academy Bromley is no exception and during the day our students and staff took part enthusiastically in celebrating this day. Many of the English teachers dressed in character and students had to guess who they were – there were many interesting answers!!! Can you guess who they are meant to be?
With the bell sounding at 11am it was time for D.E.A.R. time! – Drop Everything and Read. Suddenly a hush descended all over the Academy as all students and staff read their own book silently for 15 minutes – time out from a busy day! Our roving photographers stopped by many classrooms and were impressed by the dedication of students reading silently in a large group with their teachers.
“I found it cool and fascinating to see staff dressed up and having to figure out who they were” Matilda Benson 11G2
“I found it interesting, it was funny and unusual to see staff out of character”Tenesha Nairne 11G1
“I thought the day was effective because even though I was reading for a short period of time I was able to reflect on the emotions and atmosphere in the book (The Fault In Our Stars) Kayleigh Henry 11Y1
“I thought it was fun to see teachers dressed up, it reminded me of primary school. I enjoyed D.E.A.R. time as it was relaxing and a break from studies. I enjoy reading and it is important not to judge a book by its cover” Nadine Trimmer 9R1
“I think the teachers were brave dressing up as it was so out of character especially in front of students. D.E.A.R. time was like having a little break and having time to read to myself” Lynna Coupie 9Y1
Well done to everyone who took part in World Book Day 2015 and Keep Reading!
