HAGBR celebrates record number of published authors and poets
Year 10 student Ijeoma Offormezie had particular success in that two of her poems were shortlisted amongst the top entries nationally and entered into a further stage with the opportunity for Ijeoma to perform her poems live at an award ceremony along with the top 40 young poets nationally. Congratulations to Ijeoma and next year we hope to break the 150 mark and celebrate yet more published authors!
THE SAME WOMAN IN A DIFFERENT BODY
She was a young woman,
With a courteous demeanour; just like me,
A positive disposition, respect for the elderly.
T was the fruit of the womb,
I entered her life.
My infant life shone brightly,
A creation from a celestial body,
Yesterday, her hair passed her shoulders,
Today in a traditional bun
Tomorrow a kinky braid.
She knows me inside out,
A rare luminary, she learnt diplomacy from her father,
Which she passed on to me
Her heart was clean and pure, unable to be unpurified by perdition,
Any evil attack would dispel when it came into contact with her.
She was brave, but not alone,
Her weapon was located deep inside her soul
Repeated invocations bolstered her strength each time,
She was innocuous,
No small action could change her inheritance.
She gave words, but not her heart, she guarded it viciously,
It was the most vulnerable piece of her,
She didn’t treat people according to first impressions,
She treated them as she considered ach word that left her mouth
She is firm in all her judgement, although I though they seemed unfair,
It was an act of discipline
Here I am, a grown woman,
An exact replication of her,
In an authentic body
