The Great Pi Bake Off
On 14th March, 30 keen bakers took to the ovens to celebrate national Pi day. The brief: to create an aesthetically pleasing, fine tasting dish with mathematical links to Pi.
Many enthusiastic teams from year 7-10 applied and 12 were selected at random. It was clear that some hard thought and planning had gone into each and every entry. The marvellous creations included an impressive Pi-decorated heart-shaped cake, sweet and savoury pies with homemade pastry, and one team even made fondant icing from scratch!
But there had to be a winner and after careful deliberation from a panel of 5 teacher-judges, it was decided that the winners were year 8 participants Niah, Yahla and Shayenne, with their magnificent circular chocolate cake and brilliant Pi decoration (See photo).
It was fantastic to see so many creative entries and we certainly have some budding bakers at HGABR.
Thank you to everyone who took part and helped out with the event, it was a brilliant way to celebrate Pi day as part of STEAM week within school.
