Year 7 Federation Science Challenge
When we arrived at Harris Academy Beckenham, we felt the competitive spirit in the air and we knew we were in for a challenge! We were made to feel very welcome and soon after arrival we were introduced to the other Academies who we would be competing against. Although one team member down, we were feeling very confident and up for the challenge.
We had no idea what the challenge was going to be, so we weren’t able to prepare or do any research beforehand, it was all going to rest on our scientific ingenuity! So, we were given a booklet to explain our task and ask some questions (we almost got all of them right!). The challenge was to build a bridge and we only had one hour. After about 50 minutes, when time was coming to an end, we really felt the pressure! We were counting down the minutes as if the earth was going to end………….
STOP!!!!!
The instructor showed us that the time was up and said it was our chance to show that Bromley was the best Academy in the competition and then the instructor collect our bridges. This was it, it was time to test the bridges. It was official, we came 3rd in the whole Federation and we were so proud of ourselves, not only for placing third, but also because unlike the other teams, we were a member down. We travelled back to the Academy with Mrs Short, and with our heads held high! We felt really proud of what we had achieved. It was a great day!
