Students at Key Stage 3 study both Drama and Latin and for those who opt to Mandarin; the wide breath of subjects prepares students to make choices at Key Stage 4 that are not restricted, ensuring that their curriculum remains varied and broad.

Beyond the classroom students are enriched through an abundant series of extra-curricular activities and planned CORE Days that develop, deepen and stretch their character.

Our curriculum is based on equipping our students with the knowledge and skills they need to maximise the opportunities available to them, take ownership of their responsibilities, and be physically and mentally prepared for experiences of later life.

Our Personal Development curriculum document summarises how across the academy we endeavour to achieve this. All staff see it as a shared responsibility to ensure that we go way beyond the curriculum to achieve the below:

  • To prepare students for the opportunities, responsibilities, and experiences of later life
  • Through delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum, to promote the spiritual, moral, social, and cultural (SMSC) development of pupils
  • To promote good behaviour and positive character traits, including courtesy, respect, truthfulness, courage, and generosity
  • To develop positive mental health, which allows our students to fulfil their potential at school and be well prepared for adult life. The Academy will support this through clear expectations on behaviour, well- planned provision for character, personal development and a focus on mental health awareness and education
  • To develop cultural capital, a habit of service and an enthusiasm for experiences, activities and knowledge beyond their timetabled lessons
  • To deliver an enhanced programme that enriches students’ knowledge of careers. For students to engage in broadening their horizons and shaping their futures whilst raising and nurturing ambition
  • To equip students with the necessary level of knowledge and understanding to speak confidently and honestly on topics based around healthy relationships and sexual health
