An Interview with Lord Harris and Tom Conti

Lord Harris, Mr Tom Conti, Sir Harry and Lady Soloman and Mr David Broome CBE visited Harris Girl’s Academy Bromley, to witness the official launch of the Bromley 100. The Bromley 100 was designed to encourage and promote the love of reading books through a list of 100 recommended literary texts.

While they were visiting the school, we had the absolute pleasure in asking them questions associated with books.

Mr Tom Conti explained that although it was difficult to pick a favourite book throughout all the genres, his all-time favourite had to be the Peter Pan novel; due to his perception of it being a psychological journey of the author.

Lord Harris expressed that his favourite book was A Christmas Carol, due to his adoration of Christmas.

As part of our interview, we asked whether or not they felt film adaptations were better than the original books, however, the general answer was no. Mr Conti justified this answer by saying it is like ‘making magic in your own imagination’. However, Lord Harris juxtaposed this view by stating that there was an exception to this statement and “that was Ben-Hur”.

The advice that we also received in correspondence to our question on how to improve memory, was to ‘learn the thought, memorise the situations and the word will fall into place.’
