HGABR Continues to be an 'Outstanding' School

We are delighted to announce that, following their inspection of our Academy last month, Ofsted inspectors have concluded that Harris Girls Academy Bromley “continues to be an outstanding school.”

This brilliant outcome is testament to all our students, staff and the wider Academy community whose continued hard work has allowed us to maintain the highest standards in all areas of school life. Pleasingly, the inspectors noted and praised our “ambitious curriculum”, high standards of teaching and “exceptional examination results”.

It was particularly pleasing that inspectors highlighted the respect and care which our students have for one another and for their teachers. As ever, our students were a credit to the Academy and themselves during the inspectors’ visit.

You can read the full report here but below are some highlights:

On our welcoming school community:

  • ‘Pupils are successful at this school and play a full part in its caring community.’
  • Pupils ‘treat each other with respect.’
  • ‘Pupils feel safe here.’
  • ‘Teachers and staff at the school feel well looked after and proud of the community they serve.’

On our high academic standards:

  • ‘The school has set a high standard for what it expects pupils to achieve.’
  • ‘The work pupils produce shows a deep understanding of their learning. This is also seen through the exceptional examination results that pupils achieve.’
  • ‘The school has an ambitious curriculum.’

On our excellent team of staff:

  • ‘Teachers stand out for their strong subject expertise. They know their subjects well, and understand how to teach them.’
  • ‘Pupils who are weaker readers are identified quickly, often before they start the school in Year 7. They catch up well because of the way the school supports them.’
  • ‘The curriculum is relevant to pupils in the school and careful thought is given to subject content.’

On our students’ attitudes to learning:

  • ‘Pupils work hard and ask for help when needed, because they are keen to meet these high expectations.’
  • ‘Pupils enjoy school and levels of attendance are high.’
  • ‘Pupils have a positive attitude to learning, and follow the instructions of adults, who they treat with courtesy.’

On how we prepare our students for life beyond the Academy:

  • ‘Pupils benefit from a strong careers programme during their time at the school.’
  • ‘Pupils… can explore opportunities that they wish to pursue without barriers.’
  • ‘The range of qualifications on offer in the sixth form meets the ambition of its pupils.’
