HGABR Celebrates World Book Day with Whole School Creativity
HGABR marked World Book Day 2026, with an incredible display of imagination, collaboration, and a shared love of reading, thanks to the joint efforts of staff across the academy, as well as the excellent contributions by our students. The atmosphere was buzzing from the moment students arrived, greeted by familiar faces transformed into beloved literary characters. (Yes, gate duty had a slight twist this morning).

One of the standout highlights was the Senior Leadership Team’s themed ensemble: Beauty and the Beast. Staff embraced their roles with enthusiasm, bringing the classic story to life for students. Leading the cast, Head of Academy Mr Sherwin stepped confidently into the central role - much to the delight of pupils and colleagues alike.
Another strong staff theme this year was the classic Roald Dahl tale, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. With bright colours, imaginative costumes, and plenty of Willy Wonka style charm, staff brought the magical world of the chocolate factory into the corridors of HGABR. I'm sure students were thrilled to see such a vibrant interpretation of a story they know and love.
Across the academy, staff joined in the fun by dressing as characters from a wide range of books. Classrooms and corridors were filled with stories and conversations about favourite novels, hopefully, inspiring students to explore new genres and rediscover the joy of reading.
World Book Day at HGABR was not just a celebration of literature, but a celebration of community - showing what can be achieved when staff come together with creativity and heart. The day ended with smiles, photos, and plenty of renewed excitement for reading across the school.
Students especially enjoyed Mr Sherwin’s enthusiastic involvement.
